Lev manovich charts the role of Flash in the emergence of new media art in the 2000's, as the otherwise 'corporate' banner-software was retooled for art distribution. Since this writing, Javascript has taken the place of Flash, which is now deprecated on most systems, but many of the concepts are the same.
